Java and ARTstor – Update

January 25, 2013

UPDATE:  ARTstor now uses zip files for saving downloaded images.

  • Java is no longer necessary for saving images and information in ARTstor.

You have probably seen serious security warnings about Java, and may have uninstalled or disabled Java on your computer.  Although this is a prudent practice, be aware that some Internet services require Java to work. One of these is the ARTstor image database.

ARTstor will not allow you to download an image unless you have the most current version of Java and have popups enabled. The Chemeketa library has computers where you can use ARTstor and download images to a flash drive. If you are not near Chemeketa, you may be able to visit a library in your area that has ARTstor.  Or, you may consider enabling Java on your computer just long enough to do your ARTstor search.  (Since Java is free, installing it and uninstalling it doesn’t involve any expense.)

The library does offer two other image databases that include works of art. CAMIO is a smaller art database that has high quality images. ImageQuest is a Britannica database that has images on all kinds of subjects, including art. All of our image databases can be found at http://library.chemeketa.edu/information/databaseB.php#images. You will need your My Chemeketa user name and password to connect from off campus.

Wireless network reminder

January 25, 2013

If you are having trouble logging into the Chemeketa student wireless network, you may have an out-of-date password or no password.  You can obtain the current password on the first page of My Chemeketa.  The CCCPublic wireless network will let you log into My Chemeketa.

If you have an old wireless password already set up on your computer, you will need to change it to the current one by opening your Network and Sharing Center, choosing CCCStudent from the list of networks, and choosing the Security tab. The space marked Network Security Key is where the new password goes.

Instructional Assistants are available in the Library or the Open computer Lab to help you.
